Natalie was connected with Accelerator YMCA through interagency, an alternative school in south Seattle. She recalls: "Initially my goals were to have stable housing, income and reconnect with my mother." Natalie met with Anna, a Y Resource Specialist, to make progress on each of these goals. Anna supports the Home At Last program, which serves young people who are highly vulnerable and/or have experienced chronic homelessness.
"I feel more safe. I feel connected and supported - something I have not felt in a very long time. "
Natalie's progress took a turn when her mother unexpectedly passed away. She said: "The YMCA supported me when I needed it the most, they helped me reshape my goals and dreams. Anna has supported me through my complex grief and trauma. She and her team have connected me to life changing resources. Anna never leaves me empty handed when I need help."
Natalie has worked extremely hard to stay on track with her new goals and has succeeded in so many ways. She's learned life skills such as budgeting and building credit, and secured housing through the Y. But perhaps most importantly: "I feel more safe. I feel connected and supported - something I have not felt in a very long time", said Natalie.
Natalie is enrolled in community college and currently holds a 3.3. GPA. She has two quarters left until she transfers to a university, and recently learned that she will be receiving a scholarship.
