About a year ago, Jon Bye began his quest to be a more active member of his community in Kent. After some research and talking to people around Kent, Jon decided that he could best support his city by helping to make the vision of the new Kent Y become a reality.
Jon Bye learned quickly the impressive impact a Y can make on a community. “It’s so much more than just a pool and gym!”, Bye said.
“It’s so much more than just a pool and gym!”
The new Kent Y will offer community gathering space, swim lessons, Active Older Adults programs, chronic disease prevention, mental health counseling, youth sports and recreation, summer day camp, and family activities—just to name a few.
Those programs and the Y’s dedication to make our programs accessible to everyone regardless of their ability to pay are why Jon Bye is volunteering as part of the Kent Y’s Capital Campaign Fundraising committee, whose primary responsibility is working with the community to get people excited and engaged with the fundraising and construction process of the Kent Y.
Jon believes that without the new Kent Y, the kids and families of Kent will miss out on life-changing and improving opportunities. He is working hard to make sure that all people get the tools to live happy, healthy lives and to create good habits that last a lifetime.
The Kent Y is slated to open in the fall of 2019.
