“Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.” -Martin Luther King Jr.
On Monday, January 16, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we encourage you to use it as a day of service. Instead of being a day that you have off from school or work, please consider making it a day on. A day in which you offer your time and talent to your community.
The Accelerator YMCA is partnering with United Way of King County for a day of education, discussion, and reflection. Come join community members and YMCA employees Monday, January 16 starting at 10am in room 120 of the Downtown YMCA for a viewing of the PBS Film American Denial followed by a group discussion. There will also be an opportunity to make signs for the MLK March and Rally (taking place at the Federal Building on 2nd & Madison) which the group will walk down to together at 1:30pm.
For more information about the rally, follow this link.
If you can’t make it to this event, you can search for MLK Day volunteer opportunities near you through the Corporation for National & Community Service.
