Beginning Monday, January 4, 2021, Y members will be able to use cardio and strength equipment outdoors in the parking lot of the Dale Turner Family YMCA. We're excited to test out this new way of exercising with you! Here's the rundown of what to expect when you visit:
-
Equipment: We will have barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells, flat benches, two Olympic benches, a skier machine, ab bench, rowers, spin bikes, an assault bike, a NuStep plus undercover walking and running tracks for you to use.
-
Reservations: Similar to indoor use, we're requiring reservations to use cardio or strength equipment outdoors. You can learn more about reservations in our Welcome Back Guide.
-
Weather: Outdoor programming will run rain or shine. In the event of extreme conditions, we will notify members of the activity cancellation via phone call. We will also post about the cancellation on social media. Find your branch Facebook page in this list, and consider updating your contact information before your reservation.
We are so excited to see you in-person and outdoors soon. Dress warm! Reservations will open at 12:01 am on Saturday, January 2.
Frequently Asked Questions
How are you keeping members safe during outdoor workouts?
Your safety is our highest priority, indoors and outside. We will continue to follow the latest safety guidelines, including social distancing and limited capacity of 5 people per activity (plus an instructor). We strongly recommend that members wear masks outdoors during their workout too.
What ages can participate in outdoor programming? Can children ages 10-13 join?
Due to the nature of our outdoor programming, we are limiting access to ages 14 and up for now. This decision is based on the equipment we’ll have outside as well as the intensity levels of our exercise classes. We welcome children ages 10 and older to join us for a swim in the pool, take a virtual cooking class, and more. Learn more about programs for children and teens.
Why aren’t you offering more outdoor cardio and strength reservations?
We are offering outdoor cardio and strength reservations at the Dale Turner Family YMCA because its parking garage is covered and secured, which allows us to safely leave equipment there overnight. We appreciate your patience as we explore ways to adapt our reservations at other branches. In the meantime we recommend checking out outdoor group exercise classes for your cardio and strength workouts starting on Monday, January 4.
How do I check in for my outdoor reservation?
Check-in will be at the stairwell on floor P1 of the parking garage. If you park on the P1 level, walk up the stairs to the P1. If you are coming from the front doors, look for signs to help you locate the entrance to the parking garage and precede to P1.
Will outdoor programs have heaters?
The Dale Turner Family YMCA will have a few heaters on their P2 garage level, but still recommend dressing for the outside temperatures.
My membership is on hold. Can I still make an outdoor reservation?
Members will need to re-activate their membership in order to make a reservation. Use this form to get your membership re-activated within 7 business days, or give us a call at 206-382-5022 if you need it re-activated sooner.
