Let's go on a Rainbow Quest, a colorful adventure that blends hands-on activities with exciting outings in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Whether you're heading outdoors, visiting local attractions, or getting creative at home, this journey will brighten your family's day.

Red

Head to a fire station tour (many local stations offer family-friendly visits) or stop by a firefighter museum to see vintage fire trucks up close. At home, challenge kids to a red scavenger hunt to collect red toys, clothes, and household items. Visit a farmers market to pick out red fruits like apples, strawberries, and cherries, then make a vibrant fruit salad or jam.

Orange

Explore the Chihuly Garden and Glass exhibit or visit an art museum to see bold, fiery colors in action. Try an orange-mixing experiment at home with paints, blending reds and yellows to create different shades. Try this citrus volcano experiment using oranges, baking soda, and vinegar for a fizzy surprise!

Yellow

Visit daffodil fields in early spring or explore a butterfly garden to admire the bright yellow wings of local pollinators from May to September. Spend a day at the beach or lake, looking for golden sand, driftwood, and smooth yellow-toned rocks. Back home, make homemade lemonade, then hold a "sunshine dance party" wearing yellow clothes and playing cheerful tunes like Walking on Sunshine.

Green

Hike through the Hoh Rainforest, the Issaquah Alps, or the local nature trail, and challenge your family to count how many shades of green they can find. Visit a community garden or greenhouse to learn about plant life, or plant your own mini herb garden at home. Try a green food taste test, sampling cucumbers, kiwis, avocados, and leafy greens—see which one wins the family's approval!

Blue

Spend a day by the ocean, a river, or a lake, watching the movement of blue water and collecting sea glass or shells. Visit the Seattle Aquarium to see jellyfish, sea stars, and fish of all shades of blue. For a hands-on activity, make a DIY wave bottle by layering blue-dyed water with oil in a clear bottle and watching the waves move. End the day with cloud-gazing, making up stories about the shapes you see.

Indigo

Take a ferry ride at twilight, watching the deepening indigo sky over Puget Sound. At home, make a galaxy painting using watercolors and salt. For a storytelling twist, read magical adventure books like Harold and the Purple Crayon or make up your own bedtime stories inspired by the night sky.

Violet

Stop by a botanical garden to spot violet flowers in bloom. At home, create homemade purple playdough, adding a drop of lavender essential oil for a relaxing scent. For a silly twist, have a dress-up parade, challenging everyone to find and wear their best purple outfits.

Rainbow

End your Rainbow Quest by making a rainbow snack platter. Arrange red strawberries, orange slices, yellow bananas, green cucumbers, blueberries, indigo grapes, and violet blackberries for a delicious and colorful treat.

Ready, Set, Rainbow!
