We know planning for day camp can be challenging so we have provided a handy list of essential items to bring (and what not to bring) plus a few other helpful hints to make it easier!
- Label all possessions with permanent marker, preferably on the tag at the neck or waist.
- Sunscreen provided by the parent/guardian should also be labeled.
- Dress appropriate for the weather of the day with closed-toe shoes.
- Backpacks, books, and other personal belongings are the responsibility of the camper.
What to Bring:
Food and water are essential to all and important for keeping campers active and energized.
Backpack
Guide your child to pack their own bag to ensure greater success at recognizing their personal items.
Water Bottle
Fill water bottles every day to ensure your camper stays hydrated. Milk and/or juice may also be provided.
Lunch
Most camps require families to pack a nutritious and hearty lunch. Read more about day camp food here.
Comfortable campers are happy campers! Include these extras to keep yours cozy and clean.
Change of Clothing
Active play may result in dirty clothing! Pack some extras to keep your camper clean.
Outerwear
Northwest weather is unpredictable so don't forget a jacket or sweatshirt.
Hat or Visor
Keep the sun out of their eyes and shade on their face with a hat or visor.
Swim days are the best so don't forget these items to ensure your camper can join in the water fun.
Swimsuit
Swim days require swimwear! Be sure to dry out each night for possible reuse.
Towel
A clean, dry towel will keep your little swimmer warm after some fun in the sun.
Plastic Bag
A plastic bag for wet swimsuits and towels are key to a dry backpack!
What NOT to Bring:
We discourage campers from bringing their own electronic devices, phones, special toys, game cards, money, or sports equipment (unless specified for camp). If these items are brought, the Y staff may collect and return them when the child is picked up. The Y is not responsible for lost items.
Prohibited Items:
- Controlled Substances: Illegal drugs, controlled substances, and alcohol are not permitted on the property where a Y program is operated or visits.
- Tobacco: Tobacco products, inclusive of vaping materials, are not permitted at Y camp and facilities. Family cooperation is also necessary to protect our “outdoor classroom” for everyone to enjoy. Thank you for keeping Y Day Camp space and buildings tobacco free.
- Pets: Animals are not allowed and are not to be brought to Y programs, unless they are an approved service animal.
- Weapons or Explosives: Children, staff, parents, or visitors are not permitted to bring or possess weapons (including firearms and pocket knives) at Y camp. Matches, lighters, and firecrackers are not permitted.
Lost and Found
Please check the lost and found area when personal belongings are missing. Items are returned to their owners as soon as possible. The Y does not take responsibility or replace any items lost, broken, or misplaced. Unclaimed items are held for two weeks then discarded or donated to charity.
