Jazz up your garden or planters with these cute, recycled craft critters! Cutting up soda cans can be tricky. Make sure an adult helps you get started.
Materials Needed
-
Empty, clean aluminum drink cans - like soda cans
-
Small sticks – like chop sticks, popsicle sticks, or similar
-
Sharp scissors and/or x-acto knife
-
Hot glue gun and glue – this works best when working with soda cans!
-
[Optional] permanent marker
Note: Making these from soda cans can help them last longer as outdoor decorations. If you don’t want to use these as outdoor decorations or you don’t have beverage cans or hot glue, you can make these from other colorful recycled good like cut-outs from magazines, cardboard food boxes, or junk mail. If you go with the recycled paper route, no need for hot glue! Regular glue works just fine.
Carefully cut the tops and bottoms from your soda cans.
Lay out the sheets of aluminum and trace the shapes you want to cut out with a marker.
Make sure your hot glue gun is hot, grab your stick, and lay out your cut-outs. Have a plan because once you get gluing, hot glue can be tricky to use!
Start gluing and watch your critter come to life!
Make different soda can bug critters, give them time to dry, and decorate your garden, a potted plant, or put them in a vase/jar!
