About the Downtown Seattle Y
The Downtown YMCA has been a part of the Seattle landscape for almost as long as Seattle has been a city. First incorporated in 1876 by Dexter Horton and other prominent city leaders, the Y has continued to grow and adapt in order to meet the evolving needs of a growing city. The Downtown Seattle YMCA continues to be the place where anyone from every walk of life can find a safe community, and where anyone—regardless of income or background—can access the resources they need to live healthy and happy lives.
Serving Our Community
The Downtown Seattle Branch of the YMCA of Greater Seattle serves the Downtown, Belltown, First Hill, Capitol Hill and Beacon Hill neighborhoods. It is also home to the administrative offices of the YMCA of Greater Seattle, Camping Services, Accelerator YMCA, and Folio: The Seattle Athenaeum.
Our History is Seattle’s History
Founded in 1876, The Downtown Seattle YMCA is the oldest fitness and wellness facility in the Northwest.
